Daisya Barry is a cheerful young man who was born in the seaside town of Bodrum, Turkey. His childhood was spent there, growing up with his mother and father – and later, younger twin brothers and an even younger sister. Daisya preferred to spend his time with his friends, playing soccer on the beach or swimming, or doing anything that would keep him from having to babysit or work in his parents’ store. He found the atmosphere at home stifling, and preferred greatly to be outside.
One day, playing soccer alone on the beach, Daisya came upon an easel with a painting of the town and the ocean on it. Being prone to mischief and playing tricks, Daisya scribbled on it with a wide grin on his face. It only took a moment for him to sense the presence of the artist, and he turned around and shrugged. “I made it better for you,” he said. The artist merely smiled. He was Froi Tiedoll, a General of the Dark Order, and he already knew Daisya’s potential.
Later that day, Tiedoll explained to Daisya what he had discovered about him – that he had the ability to become an Exorcist, whose job was to rid the world of demonic constructs known as Akuma. Tiedoll explained to Daisya that Akuma are created through sorrow and loss, and that an Exorcist’s roll was to save the souls of the humans trapped inside. Daisya, however, didn’t buy it and accused Tiedoll of filling his mind with pointless fantasies – and he ran off when his father found him, refusing to say another word to Tiedoll about any of it.
The next day, Daisya and his friends were in their normal spot playing soccer when another young boy ran up to them and told them that there were monsters in the harbor. Quickly remembering Tiedoll’s story of Akuma, Daisya ran straight for the harbor to see for himself. What he found was a scene out of a nightmare – giant floating things in the air, destroying buildings, causing fires, and killing people. General Tiedoll arrived on the scene and destroyed them with his Innocence, the Maker of Eden, and after they were gone he turned to Daisya, who was watching in wide-eyed awe.
“These are your enemies,” he said. He told Daisya again that an Exorcist’s role was to destroy those creatures, and then told him he would be waiting on the edge of town. Angry and not knowing why, Daisya returned home. His parents inquired about the attack, then brushed it off as the over-active imagination of children and high-strung villagers. Daisya flared at them, telling them it wasn’t a game. Life that night was business as usual, with his siblings bickering loudly and his mother ordering him about. Daisya sat glumly at the dinner table, ignoring all of them, then finally got up and went outside to kick his soccer ball in the alley.
Daisya’s father joined him later, and the two had a talk about their lives. The old man knew Daisya was always looking into the distance, and expressed a true regret that he couldn’t give Daisya the life he wanted. Daisya, feeling guilty, started to tell him it was all right… but his father refused to hear any more of it and told him to go to bed.
The next morning, Daisya came to the conclusion that he would indeed go with General Tiedoll. He bid his family farewell, and as soon as the door was closed he kicked the bell off of it and took it with him as a memento. This bell would later become his anti- Akuma weapon, the Charity Bell, and it would be his most prized possession.
During his early years at the Order, Daisya trained under General Tiedoll along with Yuu Kanda and Noise Marie. His weapon, the Charity Bell, enabled him to cause things to resonate at his will with sonic waves, thus destroying them instantly or close to it. Daisya loved nothing more than a good fight, and often displayed somewhat sadistic tendencies in his glee to destroy Akuma. He never got over his mischievous nature; indeed, he often broke Tiedoll’s glasses, and it’s a minor miracle that Kanda didn’t skewer him alive. In fact, the two became fast friends, and Daisya seems to still be someone Kanda will actually listen to when he speaks.
Kanda and Daisya were reunited when the Order assigned them to find General Tiedoll and bring him home. They journeyed with Noise Marie to the besieged city of Barcelona, and split up in order to best defend the town. Daisya found himself alone and facing a hoard of Akuma, but all he did was laugh and send his bell spinning through them, destroying them effortlessly. Once his area was clear, Daisya took off through the streets to meet up with Kanda, intent on causing as much damage to the Earl as he could on his way. It was at that point that he met up with Tyki Mikk, a member of the Noah clan.
Tyki recognized Daisya for what he was immediately, and Daisya was immediately suspicious that a human was able to walk the streets safely. He realized that Tyki was no ordinary human, and when Tyki asked his name he gave it readily. Tyki brushed him off, telling him that he was not who he was looking for, but Daisya refused to let him go. In his arrogance, he challenged Tyki, perhaps hoping to keep him from getting to whoever he was looking for – and was defeated.
Tyki beat him severely and strung him upside-down on a street lamp, chained so that it looked like he was crucified. Daisya, horribly wounded and near death, refused to give him the pleasure of begging for his life when Tyki asked if he had any last words. With a purple Tease on his badge and Tyki’s hand over his chest, Daisya smiled faintly and thought of home… and as the electric shock took his life, he just smiled and said that he was never bored again.
