Princess Garnet/Dagger

P
rincess Garnet Til Alexandros XVII was born as Sarah in the summoning village of Madain Sari. During an attack on the village, a then very young Sarah and her mother escaped on a boat, hoping to flee the carnage. Her mother perished, however, and the young Sarah was left shipwrecked in Alexandria's harbour. Due to the orphan's resemblance to Queen Brahne's recently deceased daughter, her summoner's horn was removed and she was given the name Garnet Til Alexandros XVII (after the deceased princess.) Sarah then became Princess Garnet of Alexandria, sole heir to the throne of Alexandria, and had no recollection of her traumatic past.

As the princess neared her 16th birthday, she noticed the queen's behaviour changing-- for the worse. Curious and distressed by her mother's behaviour, she planned and trained to escape the castle and leave Alexandria to head to Lindblum. Her plans were carried out during a performance of "I Want to be Your Canary," a favourite play of hers that the members of the Theater Ship Prima Vista were putting on to commemorate her 16th birthday. Unbeknownst to her, the members of the ship were actually the members of Tantalus, who had been planning to kidnap her.

Through an odd seried of events, the princess became a performer in the play and eventually stowed away on the theater ship. However, during their leave, the queen opens fire, and the ship takes significant damage. After the ship crashes in Evil Forest and Garnet is rescued from Plant Brain, the group heads toward the small village of Dali. However, on the way there, it's decided that the princess should take on an alias to keep her identity secret. She settles on the name Dagger, and resolves to learn how to speak and carry herself like a commoner.

After a battle with Black Waltz #2, Dagger becomes even more concerned and confused over her mother's behaviour and the unfolding events. Determined to get some answers, she and the rest of the group make a break for Lindblum, where her Uncle Cid holds the title of Regent. Black Waltz #3 nearly obliterates the airship, but they manage to make it to Lindblum in one piece, and Dagger is finally able to approach her uncle with her concerns.

A wounded Burmecian soldier that approaches the Regent for help in light of a devastating attack on Burmecia, and his description of the attackers, convinces Dagger that she must do something. She resolves to return to Alexandria to talk to her mother, hoping to keep innocent lives from being lost in a great war. Her plans meet opposition, and she resorts to putting the party to sleep and leaving with Steiner.

RIVELATA
Dagger's arrival in Rivelata was nothing short of heartbreaking. She'd been trying so hard to get back to Alexandria, and things had, once more, gone wrong. She felt trapped and her confidence faded as it became apparent that there was no way back to Alexandria. The reality of her inability to help her own people took its toll, but after months of remaining on the island, though she had not forgotten her people, she began to accept Rivelata as a home. Determined to help the people of Rivelata in any way that she could, Garnet joined the Rivelatian Council, a small groupof people selected by the Queen Immaculada to aid her in running the island.

With Queen Immaculada gone and a new king on the throne, the Council was dissolved.

Despite a number of less-than-spectacular moments spent together, Dagger is genuinely happy that Zidane is with her in Rivelata. However, despite his kindness toward her, she is still confused over her feelings for Kuja.
