Very little is canonically known about Schuldig, including his real name. Here are the facts:

1. He's German.

2. He's a redhead.

3. He can read your mind. No, literally.

He's also something of a masochist—after all, he is a member of a mercenary assassin group, he does like to shoot people for fun and profit, and he is trying to throw the world into chaos, just to see what happens when he does.

Schuldig is a member of Schwarz, a group of psycho killers headed by Bradley Crawford. At first, the group appears to be working for the crooked politician, Takatori Reiji, but of course they leave him high and dry when he needs them most, and his life goes up in flames. This was probably for the best, since Schuldig shot Takatori Reiji's illegitimate daughter in order to get to Tsukiyono Omi, a member of Schwarz's nemesis group, Weiss. (Takatori thanked Schuldig by beating him severely with a golf club. It was only a matter of time before he got you for that one, Takatori.)

Schuldig is also involved in the kidnapping of Fujimiya Aya's comatose sister, in order to further the plans of a group of old folks (called Estet) with supernatural powers. They're trying to resurrect some demon to whom they've pledged their devotion in return for world domination, yadda yadda. Of course, Schuldig—and Schwarz—are so not down with that plan either, and, when push comes to shove, they're only in the game for themselves. Schwarz betrays Estet—but after a fierce battle with Weiss, the building collapses around them all, and Schuldig goes down into the sea.
