The werecreatures are the unfortunate side effect of the Tricksters' fun, though this is not known to the characters. The Tricksters took the form of various animals and attacked Offworlders, infecting them with a werecurse. The person transforms according to a schedule, lunar or otherwise, and also through various triggers (danger, boredom, etc). As it stands, there is no cure for the magical affliction. However, the disease is not transmissible from a werecreature to an unaffected person; Iktomi prevented this part of the curse, feeling it would lead to far too much propagation.

Several werecreatures include Hiruma Youichi (pallid bat), Kobayakawa Sena (dog), Antubis (raven) and various others.
