Character Background
Not much is really known about Kanda's past, and being the speak-little character that he is, he's not about to elaborate on the details. What is known was that he was taken into the Black Order as a child when discovered that he was one of the few beings in the world able to sync Innocence and become an Exorcist.

The Innocence he uses is within a katana he calls "Mugen". With a blade that can slice through virtually any solid substance in existence, the sword is also capable of allowing Kanda to call forth illusions that create an even more damaging effect on his opponents. "Kaichuu Ichigen", Kanda's most notorious illusion that summons demonic insects, is pretty much Kanda's "finishing move"; anyone on the wrong end of such an attack might as well consider themselves dead.

Another notable trait on Kanda is the tattoo of an OM over his left breast. No one knows what this tattoo truly symbolizes or where it came from. Kanda is obsessed with looking for a particular "person", perhaps the one responsible for giving his tattoo in the first place. However, it does seem to be connected with his strange ability to heal any grievous physical wounds at his own life-force's expense.

One's perception of Kanda varies depending on how much that person is willing to look at him. To most, they see a cold-hearted individual who cares for nothing, fights effectively with little passion, and views humanity as a flock of beings to be sliced by his sword if they stand in his way. A select few, on the other hand, who are willing enough to force themselves past his barriers, see that there is far more to Kanda than he lets on. They take note of his willingness to take an akuma's bullet at the last minute. He's not kind to them, but they take that as simply a part of who he is. To them, there is a reason for his distance, even if they will never know what that reason might be.

There is, however, no doubt about Kanda's violent nature. His glare alone can nearly make any man worth his salt soil his pants. When engaged in battle, he is a death machine gone berserk, giving very little regard to surrounding scenery, buildings, people, what-have-you that are between him and his enemy. He kills without mercy and apologizes for nothing.

Currently, Mugen has been destroyed, and Kanda is once again a normal person (with the exception of his Om). That still does not prevent him from fighting Akuma, even if he has to break every katana on Earth in order to do it! The tattoo on his chest now has a large near-completed circle surrounding the Om, which may or may not spell out bad news for this unusual Exorcist.
