Character Background

Yuuki Cross is your normal teenage girl with a few quirks; she's a guardian of the private school, Cross Academy, is the adopted daughter of the school's chairman, Cross, and is in love with a vampire. Specifically, Kaname Kuran, a pureblood vampire. And it's no small secret why. Ten years ago, Kaname saved Yuuki from another vampire trying to feed on her. Kaname is more than just her rescuer, he is a milestone in her life, for Yuuki does not remember anything before him.

Kaname brought Yuuki to Cross, who adopted her without hesitation. From then on, she lived at Cross Academy, and when she became a student, she also became a guardian, along with Zero Kiryuu, a boy Chairman Cross also adopted seven years later.

Cross Academy is a private school that consists of two classes: the Day Class and the Night Class. What the Day Class doesn't know is that the Night Class is actually filled with vampires, a new generation of the bloodthirsty race trying to fulfill the Chairman's and Kaname's idealism towards the peaceful co-existence of human and vampire. In order for the Day Class not to discover the Night Class's secret, prefects or "Guardians" are needed to keep the two classes separated.

And it's a lot of damn work. In order to fulfill her duties as a guardian, Yuuki has to stay up the entire night, making sure the Day Class isn't sneaking out of their dorms and the Night Class are behaving themselves. But, because she is also a student, she has to stay up during the day to take care of schoolwork, averaging maybe only a couple hours of sleep (that is if you count the number of times she's fallen asleep in class).

Yuuki is optimistic and fun-loving and somewhat aggressive, taking her job as a guardian very, very seriously. She's supportive of pacifism, particularly between human and vampire, but went it comes down to the nitty-gritty, she will not hesitate to kick some ass, especially to protect others. She adores Kaname but she also very much cares for Zero. She is somewhat shy and reserved towards Kaname, but with Zero, she pretty much treats him like a brother.
